Development of liquid-structure interaction analysis program

Two programs for seismic analysis of a liquid storage tank have been developed, called TANKMODES and TANKRESP. TANKMODES determines the modes of vibration of the tank using a liquid-structure interaction analysis approach. TANKRESP determines the seismic response of the tank structure using the response spectrum method. TANKMODES has been tested and produces natural frequency results that compare well with literature results.

Comparison of TANKRESP with simplified response analysis procedures

TANKRESP has been tested by comparing with two simplified impulsive pressure analysis procedures that are specified in the nuclear industry, ASCE 4 and BNL 52361. The TANKRESP results suggest that the ASCE 4 procedure is questionable for broad tanks, but works better for tall tanks. The BNL 52361 procedure for broad tanks shows good agreement with TANKRESP.
